We Know Sonoma Valley Roofs

The 2017 Nuns Fire began right here in the Sonoma Valley, near Glen Ellen, and burned 56,556 acres across Sonoma and Napa Counties. Three years later the Glass Fire tore through wine country again. Much of the Valley sits in a Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) zone, which makes a Class A fire-rated roof a code requirement on the hillside and rural parcels above town, not just a smart choice.

The Valley of the Moon's climate is hard on roofs. Summer afternoons routinely top 90 F and bake asphalt shingles, while winter storms drop roughly 30 inches of rain between November and March. The daily swing from hot days to cool nights stresses shingle adhesives and seals season after season.

We install GAF systems and standing seam metal roofs built for the Sonoma Valley's mix of UV exposure, fire risk, and winter rainfall, and we handle the historic-district and HOA approvals that come with building in and around the town of Sonoma.

Sonoma Roofing FAQs

Is my Sonoma home in a Wildland-Urban Interface fire zone?

Many hillside and rural parcels around the Valley are, especially toward Glen Ellen, Kenwood, and the open hills east and west of town. After the 2017 Nuns Fire, which began in the Sonoma Valley, Class A fire-rated roofing became essential for any replacement project. We confirm your exact zone during your free inspection.

Does the City of Sonoma require a roofing permit?

Yes. The City of Sonoma Building Division handles re-roofs for properties inside city limits, while the unincorporated Springs, Glen Ellen, and Kenwood go through Permit Sonoma at the County. We handle the full permitting and inspection process for you either way.

What's the best roof type for a Sonoma Valley home?

For most Sonoma homes, GAF Class A fire-rated composition shingles balance cost, durability, and fire resistance. For higher WUI exposure or 50-plus years of life, we recommend standing seam metal, and we also restore the tile roofs common on the Valley's Spanish-style homes. Both shingle and metal resist wind-blown embers.

Do you work in the historic Plaza district and Sonoma HOA neighborhoods?

Yes. We know downtown Sonoma's historic-preservation review and the approval steps for HOA communities like Temelec. We match your existing roof profile and color and submit the documentation required before work begins.

How long does a Sonoma roof replacement take?

Most asphalt shingle replacements finish in 1 to 2 days. Standing seam metal, tile, and larger or steeper roofs typically run 3 to 5 days. We schedule from our Santa Rosa office about half an hour away, clean up daily, and finish when we say we will.
